DIY Wedding Invitations

The first step in DIY wedding invitations is to gather together the important details about big day needed.  Addresses, times, the actual event and other instructions the attendees will require.  Knowing the amount of invitations that you will require is also fundamental.  This will tell you how complex you can be without breaking the bank or not having enought time to compleat the job.

There are kits available everywhere to assist the whole project.  Some are basically blank cards with wedding related clip art and some fancy edging. While different kits include folded cards along with  computer programs to aid in the building of your ultimate masterpiece.  This can be helpful, but certainly isn’t crucial if you have any applicable experience.

When you begin the DIY wedding invitations, the two things to remember are clarity and beauty.  You want the invitations to be alluring and elegant, but you need it to be legible.  You should be brave enough to design in a publishing or word processing program, print out samples and make changes.  It is vital to print before making a decision, despite trying very hard, images on screen and on paper aren’t the same thing.  Use ordinary paper until you get the results you are looking for, then you can go to using the proper invitation cards you intend.  Do not be afraid to experiment.  You can use a paper cutter, hole punch, tape and different types of card to create astonishing effects at the cost of time and effort.

The cards you create have a huge advantage over purchased cards.  They express your personality and desires, instead of what someone else thinks is appropriate.  If the quantity of invitations isn’t too high, it is possible to add a color picture of the couple.  Even if the amount of invitations is too large for the amount of ink required, the guests with parts in the wedding might get such personal additions.

For some, there is a tendency to believe that printing is the end of the job, aside from for putting the invitations into an envelope.  You should be brave enough to sign the invitations, if there aren’t too many, or to use attachments like colored cardstock shaped like a heart or butterfly, or a ribbon.

After you have the design finalized, create one for real.  Check your plan to see if it really looks like you are looking for before you start printing all the cards out.  Depending on the design you have created and the printer, this can take some time, so plan around any need to keep loading blank cards into the printer or keep a watch on the printing.

Once you have produced your DIY wedding invitations, check them against the attendees, collate them into envelopes and send them out, with one less task to concern you.
