Getting the food right at your wedding reception is one of the most important tasks when it comes to planning your wedding.

You don’t want your wedding day to be remembered for all of the wrong reasons, and you most definitely don’t want to have guests reeling about complaining of food poisoning!!

When it comes to choosing the actual caterer for the big day your choice maybe limited by your wedding venue. Many venues will either do all their catering in-house or use a designated company for all their functions. In these instances you won’t actually have much of a say in who’s physically doing your catering.

If this sounds as if you’re are not in control of your catering arrangements in most reception venues, then you are very wrong. It’s only who actually cooks the meals that is out of your hands, not what they cook! The menu choice is much more important. It is what you want that is the most important here. Almost all wedding reception venues will bend over backwards to accommodate your every catering wish. You are ultimately in charge.

Depending on the number of people attending the celebrations, most tastes and needs can be easily catered for. The bigger the party the less personalised the meal becomes. The smaller the party the easier it becomes to cater for everyone’s exact dietary requirements.

Before confirming your booking with the venue you should make sure that every angle is covered.

Most venues will offer a range of set menus to be served on the day. When it comes to choosing the menu you want served on your big day, you should consider the cost and the choice of meal available on the day, if any, being offered. If there is no choice of meals on offer then you must decide if that the food choice is adequate to satisfy the tastes and dietary requirements of all those attending.

You of course should also choose a meal plan that suits your budget and also gives the best value. And remember the best value doesn’t always mean the cheapest. You want something edible as well as affordable.

Though most wedding reception venues will stick to serving from a set menu, almost all will cater for special dietary requirements of the guests.

It is up to you to gather all the dietary needs for your guests and let the caterers know. The main requirements will be for vegetarians and those with various food allergies, but there may be guests who have to follow a strict diet for health or religious reasons.

You don’t want people being served which they simply can’t or won’t eat. So it is vital that you sort out the details of your catering down to the tiniest little detail as soon as you can to help ensure your big day goes as smoothly as possible.

When you have heard what is on offer why not take a small group of close family and try out the restaurant. Preferably eating several of your menu choices, just to make sure!

One handy tip is to write any menu choice or special requirement on the inside of any place setting card.

By Janey McKenzie Finding wedding venues for your wedding is a part of your wedding planning. Usually you have two separate wedding venues for the wedding ceremony and the wedding reception. Sometimes couples opt to choose only one venue location to hold their wedding. It really depends on your taste and budget.

Wedding venues can take a variety of shapes, forms and locations. You can hold your wedding wherever you want and whenever you want – all you need to show is a bit of money and the deal is done. You can hold your wedding at a local hall, a hotel banquet room, a church, the beach, a park, the place you met – you can be as creative as you want. But in this brainstorming process you also need to be realistic about what your needs and wants are as well as your wedding budget. Can you afford the wedding venue you are thinking about? Also, is it easily accessible by and can it accommodate the number of guests you are considering to invite to your wedding?

Your perfect wedding venue awaits you… after your brainstorming session, go out and visit the locations that you want to book as your wedding venue for either or both your wedding ceremony and reception. Consider the cost, the number of people the location seats, if it is air conditioned (if your wedding is in summer) and also the conditions for hire such as the length of time you can stay and how the cleaning up is arranged.

After visiting a few locations make a shortlist of the wedding venues and list the advantages and disadvantages for holding your venue at the certain places. You can skip this part if you found a wedding venue that you were very happy with.

Another point about planning for your wedding venue location is to delegate someone, either a family member or a close friend to manage the wedding venue location – the payment, the management of the location on the day of your wedding. The last thing you would want to do is to be putting out fires all over the place when the only thing that should be on your mind is your upcoming wedding on your special day.

Hopefully, I have given you some starting points to look at when you are planning for your wedding venue locations for both your ceremony and reception. Remember to keep within your budget, to read the fine print of your wedding venue contract and finally to have fun!
