Little girls dream of a big white wedding day, and for many women it’s a dream that never really goes away. The most important thing for a woman on her wedding day is her wedding dress; after all when else will you get to wear a spectacular dress? Whether it’s a full, fairytale chiffon affair of a simple, vintage lace design, it’s all about the dress.
But if you’re getting married in the next few months, or even years, then spare a thought for the ladies who will also be wearing a dress at your wedding – the bridesmaids. Yes, for years bridesmaids were forced into unflattering dresses, in equally unflattering colours and meringue type styles, but recently this is definitely a trend that is being bucked.
Take for example the recent royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton; her sister Pippa has been the talk of the town, not to mention to subject of much attention from celebrity magazines, after she too wore a stunning dress. Ladies, you shouldn’t fear being overshadowed by your female friends, and you should want them to look good too, after all, you’re the one that has to live with all the wedding photos!
There are plenty of popular styles of bridesmaid dresses and there is also a great selection of colours, so you can easily find something to complement your colour scheme. Many brides opt to put their bridesmaids in long, flowing gowns in a colour from their bouquet, although shorter, prom style dresses are also a popular choice of bridesmaid dress, especially in the summer months.
It’s important to choose a dress that is flattering to various body shapes if you are having more than one bridesmaid. For example if you have a tall and slender friend, the dress that’s right for her is probably not going to be the best choice for your shorter, bustier friend. Why not opt for a wrap dress, or a dress with an empire line, as these tend to be flattering to most body shapes.
If you're shopping around, then it might be a good idea to take a look online. There are various retailers and department stores that now stock bridesmaid dresses so do a little research.
